How Elite Mature Mingle works

Four steps, the first three of them free, and the one thing worth knowing before you write your profile.

In short

Elite Mature Mingle is a dating site for professional singles over 45, run by High Intent Media Inc. Registering, building a profile, browsing and showing interest are free. Reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership, which renews automatically until you cancel in Settings > Billing. Your profile is also visible to members of partner sites in the same network.

What is free, and what needs a membership

Everything up to a conversation is free. Membership pays for the conversation itself: reading the messages people send you and replying to them.

What you want to do Free Paid membership

Free members also see adverts in the members area. Optional extras, such as profile boosts and an ID badge, are sold separately and are never needed to read or reply.

1. Register

Registration asks for an email address, a password and your date of birth. You must be at least 18, or 21 in Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska and Wyoming. There is no questionnaire to sit through and nothing to pay.

Sign-ups are accepted from the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Portugal. Elite Mature Mingle is written for people over 45 with established careers, but it does not check anyone's job, income or education. It is a place to meet people at a similar stage of life, not a vetting service; what is checked, and what isn't sets out the detail.

2. Build a profile you would be happy for a colleague to see

You will need at least one photo. Every photo is reviewed, and the image policy bans nudity and lingerie. Beyond the photo, the profile has room for what matters later in life:

  • whether you have children;
  • whether you smoke or drink;
  • the age range and distance you are open to;
  • languages, religion and ethnicity, if you choose to say.

Write in your own voice and leave out anything that identifies your employer, your street or your children's names. A profile that says what you enjoy on a free Sunday tells people more than a list of adjectives. Our guide to dating discreetly when people know your name goes further if you have a public role.

3. Browse, then show interest

Browsing is free, and so is letting someone know you are interested. Some features, such as seeing who has viewed or liked you and viewing photos at full size, sit behind membership.

Take your time here. Looking before you pay tells you whether there are people in your area and age range you would like to talk to.

4. Pay when you want to talk

Reading messages and replying to them is the paid part. You choose a membership length at checkout, which shows the price, the currency and the billing name that will appear on your statement. Prices are listed in US dollars. Every membership renews automatically until you cancel, and the trial becomes a monthly membership. The prices page covers renewal and refunds in full.

Who can see your profile?

Members of partner sites in the same network can see your profile, as well as members here. Elite Mature Mingle shares a single member database with those sites, so people who joined elsewhere can see and message you, and you can see and message them. Each profile shows the site its owner joined from.

For most people this simply means more choice. If privacy matters to you, write and choose photos on the assumption that your profile will be seen more widely than this site alone.

Cancelling and leaving

Cancelling and deleting are two separate steps:

  1. Stop payments: sign in, open Settings > Billing and cancel before the renewal date.
  2. Close your account: open your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account.

Cancelling alone leaves your profile in place. If you have questions about a charge or your account, the contact page explains how to reach the help centre.

Before you meet anyone

Take your time. Talk on the site for a while, have a short video call, and meet in a busy public place you chose. Never send money to someone you have met online, however plausible the reason. Our safety guide covers romance and investment scams, with the official places to report them in the UK, the US and Australia.

Questions people ask

Do I need to pay to see who is on the site?

No. You can register, build your profile and browse members without paying, and take as long as you like over it. A paid membership is needed only when you want to read the messages people send you and reply to them.

Who can see my profile?

Members of Elite Mature Mingle and of partner sites in the same network, which share one member database. Your profile shows the site you joined from, so choose photos and wording on the assumption that more people than this site's members will see it.

Which countries can join?

Sign-ups are accepted from the UK, Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Portugal. You must be at least 18, or 21 in Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska and Wyoming.

Can I leave whenever I like?

Yes. Cancel a membership in Settings > Billing before the renewal date so you are not charged again. Cancelling does not remove your profile; to close your account, open your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account.
